Birthday Bash Mini Crop - Challenge #5...Color Inspiration

Hi everyone...Debbie here with Challenge #5
My challenge is a Color Inspiration.

I have created a color chart to use.  You can create any kind of a project using these five colors.
The colors are: black, white, blue, green & brown.

I created a mixed media project.

This is done on a 11x14 block of wood. I started out by painting the wood black, then built upon that.  The bird, flowers, and the nest are pictures that I printed out on paper and glued on.  Then I used stencils,  paints and word stickers
Products used on this project are: matted medium, gesso, joint compound, stencils, paints, color pencils, and word stickers.    I really had fun with this!

Please use the Inlinkz on the side bar to enter your project and name, and please add #5 to it so we know.   Can't wait to see what you do!   Thanks for playing along.
You have all month to play along with any of these challenges.

Each challenge will give you a random ballot for the big draw at the end of the month.

Be sure to come back in 15 minutes to view the next Challenge!

Are you guys having FUN!!! I know I'm enjoying seeing all the fun challenges my fellow DT girls have been creating for you!

Here's my challenge for you...since we're celebrating a BIRTHDAY today...I challenge you to make ANYTHING Birthday related!!!

I decided to make a layout featuring a photo I took of my son and I as we left my "birthday lunch" a few months ago. He now lives 1500 miles away and I've been missing him terribly so I decided to use this photo to force a smile from behind the tears!

Thanks for stopping by!

Remember...you have 'till the end of the month to post your challenge projects...make sure you put the challenge number by your Linky "title" so we'll know which one you're playing along with!

Feel free to stop over at my blog to leave some love :0)

Birthday Bash Mini Crop - Challenge #3 A Card!

Karla here this morning, and I am so excited to be part of this amazing Birthday Bash Mini Crop!

For my challenge I'm showing you a card I recently completed for a card swap and thought this challenge would be the perfect thing to share!

I used some pretty paper from Kaisercraft as a background and added a journaling card on top before layering on my elements. The sentiment is stamped and heat embossed and then sponged with Distress Ink before I cut it into a banner shape.

You'll see one of the challenge requirements (below) is to use a bread tag and toothpick - Here I've added paint and embossing powder and the bread tag warped a bit when I heated it, which I thought made it look like a flag!

I used a Julie Nutting Paper Doll stamp by Prima that I coloured with Prismacolor Markers and paper pieced. I love these mini stamps that fit perfectly on a card!

Inside:

Here's what you need to add to your card to qualify:

1. A button
2. A tooth pick
3. A bread tag
4. A paper clip
5. Ribbon or a piece of lace
6. Have a sentiment either on the outside or inside

You may have more than one of each item and you can add whatever else you want, as long as you have at least one of each of the above 6 items!

See! Easy-Peasy! Gather up your supplies and get creating! Don't forget to link up on the sidebar before the end of the month for your chance to win a Grand Prize!

If your birthday is on the 1st – 9th, use a 0 in front of it (as in 01 - 09).

3 – ribbon/trim/lace
4 - bling
5 – stickers

My Everyday Miracle with Karla!

Karla here today with the 'My Everyday Miracle' post! In the evenings my husband and I often watch a movie because I'm sooo tired after getting the kids to sleep (finally!) and I just want to sit down for an hour. Some days it seems like the day has been such a struggle! Recently, we found a movie, The Good Lie, and I thought this would be so perfect to share here on this post.

The synopsis of the movie includes -
They were known simply as “The Lost Boys.”
Orphaned by the brutal Civil war in Sudan that began in 1983, these young victims traveled as many as a thousand miles on foot in search of safety.  Fifteen years later, a humanitarian effort would bring 3600 lost boys and girls to America.
Mamere and Theo are sons of the Chief in their village in Southern Sudan.  When an attack by the Northern militia destroys their home and kills their parents, eldest son Theo is forced to assume the role of Chief and lead a group of young survivors, including his sister Abital, away from harm.  But the hostile, treacherous terrain has other dangers in store for them.
As the tattered group makes the difficult trek to Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, they meet other fleeing children, forging a bond with Jeremiah, who, at 13, is already a man of faith, and Paul, whose skills become essential to their survival.
Thirteen years later, the now young adults are given the opportunity to leave the camp and resettle in America.  Upon arriving in Kansas, they are met by Carrie Davis, an employment agency counselor who has been enlisted to help find them jobs—no easy task, when things like straws, light switches and telephones are brand new to them.

I found this movie so incredibly moving as you watch the young children on their journey, their faith unwavering, always so thankful for the little they did have. I was reminded that the little things that I complain about are really so unimportant compared to the incomprehensible struggles others have. I was also reminded how important having faith is and how thankful we have to be for all God gives us.

I used the Rhonna Designs app to create the photo above. I love the quote - If we open our hearts and listen we will see and hear those little Everyday Miracles.

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you are having a lovely week, full of happiness.
