Tips & Tricks with Alicia Redshaw - Gelatos (Part 1)

Hi everyone, Alicia here today to share some ideas for using Gelatos® in your creations. I have been using the Faber-Castell Gelatos® since 2011, well before they were the Superstar product that they are now. And for those of you who are wondering what Gelatos® are this is the best quote I have found for them on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Website:

“Compact acid-free pigment sticks glide on creamy smooth for vibrant color and coverage. All Gelatos® blend easily with or without water.”

And that really does sum them up in as few words as possible. My only additions would be that the creative possibilities with Gelatos® are absolutely endless as they mix with other acrylic products and with a bit of know-how can be applied to almost any surface. This canvas is one of my first completed Gelatos® projects that I still have (most have been sold or given away), and it was finished in November 2011.  I still love this canvas, even though it may seem a bit old now.

I have used Gelatos® in several different ways on this canvas, with the two main ones being:

1. Accenting and shading areas by taking the brush to the Gelatos®. This can be seen best between and around the paper hearts. The secret with this technique is to make sure that your brush is only damp, not wet. Too much water will prevent the brush from collecting and distributing the Gelatos® in a pleasing manner.

2. Applying the Gelatos® directly onto the piece and then spreading with fingers for a blended look – similar to using Oil Pastels. I have created the blue halo around the canvas edges using this technique, which also highlights the texture created by collage layers.

Hopefully you have enjoyed this information and it gives you some ideas for your next Gelatos® project.

In the Word Wednesday

Cara here to share with you today.

I've been reading in the books of Acts and Matthew, and I came across some verses that struck a nerve with me. The first was in Acts Chapter 4 where Peter and John are captured and put in jail by the Sadducees because they were teaching the people and proclaiming Jesus' they are brought before before rulers, elders and teachers of the law, and Peter ends up giving them a sermon about Jesus and true salvation. In Verse 13, it says "when they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."
Then in Matthew Chapter 10 Verses 2-4 where the 12 disciples are named, I noticed that it doesn't give too many details about these men Jesus called to be with him. It could be that there weren't many impressive details to tell as they were just ordinary men from all walks of life--fishermen, political activists, tax collectors.

From these verses, this was my "take-away" thought: God calls common people and uncommon leaders: rich and poor, educated and uneducated. Today, many people think only certain people are fit to follow Christ or serve him in a significant way, but this wasn't the attitude of the Master himself. God can use anyone, no matter how insignificant he or she appears.

Do you ever feel small, insignificant in God's big world? Remember that God uses ordinary people to do his extraordinary work. Now...what is He asking you to do today?
