"Marching" in With 3 New Challenges!

Welcome to March, everyone! 
Many of us all over the world are looking forward to the changing of the season!  Many of us in the United States are very much looking forward to SPRING! I know many you are having some unusual weather, as we have been, and this makes me long for the joy of the changing seasons.

Challenge #1:  Main Theme Challenge
Our Theme this month: Laughter is The Best Medicine
Sometimes, I get so  distracted by the busyness of life, that I forget to smile and laugh!  If you are like me, then a good laugh is very healing.

Bible Verse Inspiration:  Psalm 126:2 "Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

Rachel here with the March Tips, Tricks, & Techniques post!
I am going to show you how to turn a stepper template into an easel card!
Here is the stepper template:

 The image below shows how to make the easel:

I have scored a fold.  The top part will fit in under my stepper template.

I have glued the part inside.

It's finished, ready to decorate.
Below is the card decorated and a large version.

The cards still fold down flat with the easel parts folding back on themselves.

Guest Designer Inspiration: Laugh Always | Ashley Horton

I am excited to join Scrapping Everyday Miracles as today's Guest Designer!  Roberta invited me a while back and March was the right fit!  I worked with the layout sketch and this month's theme, Laughter Is the Best Medicine, based on Psalm 126:2.  

My children are always laughing or making us laugh, so I knew that using one of their photos would go right along with this challenge.  I had a cute photo of our middle daughter, which I snapped mid-laugh, while she was enjoying a game of tag with her brother and sister.

The sketch is really great, and can give you lots of different options for a starting point for your layout.  I loved the multi-photo aspect, but I chose to use just one photo to document on my layout.  Since my photo was portrait and not landscape, I rotated the sketch.  After rotating, I didn't change much in the way of the sketch design.  I layered patterned papers behind my photo and fussy cut a few of the circle shapes from the Pebbles From Me to You collection, to create an embellishment cluster near my photo. I placed the title right under my photo, since I rotated the sketch.  I finished my layout, by adding a little bit of spray mist, wood veneers, and a flair button.

Hi Everyone!  Paula here with a technique I just tried out called White Glue Resist.  The only part of it that is hard is having patience so I actually started it weeks ago and just completed it Sunday.  My creation is on an art journal page but you could adapt it to anything - a canvas, a layout etc.

My first step was to do what I always do with my journal which is to thoroughly coat my page with gesso to add strength so that it will hold up to all the different mediums.

The next thing I did was take a bottle of regular cheap white school glue and add a design to my page.  You can add words or anything you choose.

Now comes the patience part - you have to let the glue dry thoroughly.  I would suggest at least overnite to a full 24 hours.  As I said earlier mine sat for weeks.  

Next the fun part comes - 

I chose to use spray inks but you can use acrylic paints, watercolors, Distress inks, pretty much anything.  I don't usually use spray inks so this was a big deal for me.  

I kept adding more until the page was covered and I chose to blot them with paper towels.

I actually am pretty happy with it so far but I think it could use a bit of bright pink so I think I will add some acrylic paint.

All I did was take a bottle of Bright Magenta acrylic paint and shake it over the page to make blots and then I stood the book up so that it would drip.  Now of course it was time for more patience so that this too would dry.  I decided that it would be a good time to take a short nap.  

I think some metallic gold would be a good addition...let me go see what I can use to do that.  OK, I have a bottle of Metallic Gold acrylic paint too.  I don't want to splat this on though.  I think I will put a bit on a palette and take my fingers and spread some on the page.  I am generally into getting very messy when I work and my hands were still way too clean for being so close to the finish line.

In the photo it looks a bit more like bronze but I did use gold.  It seemed to soak into the other mediums and I had to keep adding more a few times to get it to show up.

I'd say the background is finally finished and now you can add whatever you want to on top.  I know that my Pitt pens will write on anything and I normally would add a quote or a scripture in my handwriting but I am thinking that with all the texture I achieved collaging something on would be my best finishing touch.

I decided to add this months scripture verse.  Psalm 126:2

I put the scripture into Word and printed it out.  I cut the lines apart, distressed the edges with my Distrezz It All and inked them with Picked Raspberry and Dusty Concord Distress Inks and added them to the page.  The white of the paper was too stark so I added Tea Stain Distress Ink to tone it down.

Now here is my finished page!

Heartfelt Inspiration with Cara

As I contemplated about what to share with you for this post, God put on my heart to share with you about NEW THINGS...why?

Well... 1) because spring is (almost) here and every time I walk out my front door...I see this "newness"...

and 2) because we've been going through a lot of NEW things with my daughter Ellie--poor girl...she's had a tough year. She's 8 and has had some health issues come up this year. So to try to get things under control we were led by God to go see a naturopath, who has her on all sorts of new things like digestive enzymes and trace minerals and a new diet (having to give up things she really sugar). She is also in a Dual language program at her school (Spanish-English) and this year she is really struggling with her Spanish teacher, and also with being a perfectionist. She's acting out a bit more, which is not typical, and having some anger she's started seeing the school counselor and being tutored in Spanish. On top of this, she's trying some new ventures (activities where she sees it's ok to not be perfect were recommended by the school counselor and principal) like dance (she hated it, but we managed to survive) and coming this month, baseball (wish me luck:)).

All that being said, I seriously struggle with change and all these new things are putting me a bit on edge, so God is working in me show me that even though I too am struggling with dealing with many of these new things in our life...that he will carry me...and to show me that NEW things can be good things.

And to that I say AMEN...I am so thankful that God has made me NEW...and gives me a new chance each and every day to get better at what He wants from me.
