It's So Cool I Have to Share...

Cara here to bring you today's COOL idea! I have really been loving Pinterest for all the great crafting inspiration it has...there are so many great ideas out there. One of the ideas that really caught my eye was a folded circle idea that I knew I just had to try. I love my circle punches, and this is a great new way to use them!

Here's a close-up of this fun technique:

It's super easy...here's how to do it:

1) Punch two circles of the same size...make sure one of them is on a double-sided paper.

2) Use a pencil to make a square inside the circle...these will be your fold lines.
*NOTE: You can make the pencil lines a lot lighter than mine & erase them after you're done folding if you wish.

3) Using a stylus (or a scoring tool) and a ruler, score along the lines so you will have a nice crisp fold.

4) Fold up the edges & place this piece on top of another punched circle.

So easy, but such an awesome look!

And here's my complete layout!

Hope I've inspired you to give it a try! Happy Scrapping!!

Praising God for His sufficient Grace

Happy Monday dear friends!
I know that for some of you this greeting doesn't sound very exciting - what can be happy about another week filled with challenges?
Surely, all of us sometimes experience this feeling of being overwhelmed with all we have to do and accomplish.
From time to time we are all burdened with the expectations others place on us, but much more so - with all the expectations we place on ourselves.
We strive to reach and achieve and sometimes we do.
But then there are times when we fail.
And then there are times when we fall hard and low...
It can be pretty painful and discouraging.
It can be discouraging to the point that we dread to stand up and try again because we are too afraid of another failure.
We expect far too much excellence and perfection from ourselves.
Our loving God doesn't.  He doesn't think of us any less when we fail.
He just wants us to reach up to Him and allow His Grace to strengthen us.
This truth is so plain and simple that we so often bluntly forget about it.

Grace

His Grace doesn't just appear as a lightning flash at the moment of our salvation and then it is gone because it served it's purpose.
It appears at that point to stay with us.
As much as we need God's Grace to save us, we need it to live our everyday lives in such a way that all the good plans God has for us, can come true.
Whatever our weaknesses are, His Grace is always sufficient that we can have fulfilled and exciting lives.

Gods grace
(the images are from Pinterest)

"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work" (2 Corinthians 9:8)

I was reminded of this precious truth just the last week - when I really needed it.
So, let us live our lives in God's beautiful sufficient grace, always giving Him praise for it.
Have a wonderful week! ♥

The sketch was created by me and I hope you like it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I know Valentine's Day is still a big day for so many couples, but here in the Funk household, we do things just a little different.  D and I started celebrating the holiday with the girls a few years ago.  Nothing too fancy, sometimes flowers, sometimes a date, but more times than not dinner at home with dessert, pop out of champagne glasses, and sweet love notes at each spot.

I thought I'd change it up just a bit this year and create a little something for hubby.  Not sure if he'll appreciate it as much as I, but I'm hoping he realizes the thought and love that went into it, and know how happy he's made me with this little life we've built together.

Here is what awaits the best guy I know.  Using regular card size envelopes glued together, I've created 14 tabbed inserts.  Each one celebrates 14 Everyday Moments of Us.

Mostly Chic Tags, and Cre8tive Cre8tions product used with random bits from my stash.
This makes me happy to look at!  Our life together is not perfect, and sometimes it's far from it. But at the end of the day, we know that we both want to stay true to the promise we made before God, our family, and our friends to love and honour one another until death do us part.  All this in between stuff: kids, work, chores, getaways...it all works together to give us a sweet little life.  Blessed we are.

Happy Valentine's Day friends!

February Guest Designer Inspiration Post ~ Tracey Sabella

Good morning SEM friends. This is Tracey Sabella and I'm so excited to take part as your February Guest Designer. SEM is such a special place to share our scrappy work and what the Lord is doing in our lives! Thank you Nicole for offering me this chance to share with you this month."

I would like to share my take on the February Main Challenge ~ Home is Where the Heart Is, to scrap about where we feel most at home. The Scrap Twist is to use a tag or journal block to include the details.

Our daughter, Elizabeth, married her soul mate, Andrew, in October. From the time our children were conceived we have prayed for their future homes. We pray both that our Lord will reveal the marriage and life partner He has for them and that He would be working in that individual's life to prepare them to be the Godly man or woman He has called them to be.

We raise our children in our home for the very purpose of them one day leaving us to establish their own Godly home. Deuteronomy 6 talks of us loving our Lord with all our heart, soul, and might and to obey His commandments. Then we are to teach God's ways to our children as we live out our lives before them. Why? To pass on the rich heritage and relationship with our Lord, so that in time they will have a home that serves our Lord as well. Deuteronomy 7:9 tells us that God is faithful to keep His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments. What an amazing promise to claim for our children, their spouses (future and current) and homes. Oh, and those Grandchildren, yet to come into our lives.

The wedding photo I selected for this challenge is of the candle ceremony, a symbol of their two lives becoming one. Elizabeth is leaving our home to be one with Andrew to start their new home and lives together.

"A New Life"

The twist is to include a tag or journal block with details.

The details are included in hidden journaling on the back of my tag. "A new life and a new home begin today. May our Lord always be the center of both. Deuteronomy 6"

I used a Tim Holtz stamp on the tag and a charm from Michaels. The charm had a loop at the bottom, so I added the blue bead from my stash.

My background was created by inking the edges of this Ruby Rock-It paper in several colors of Distress Ink. I then sprayed glimmer mist across the page and used a dropper to create drips where I would be placing my cluster under the photo.

The large focal flower is from Manor House and the smaller blue flowers are handcrafted using Bitty Blossoms dies. The flourish is another Michael's find.

I used clocks in several ways to help convey the idea of a new home and life together. First I inked a clock image behind this cluster using a stencil. I spritzed my chipboard grass with a green chalk mist and pulled some fiber from a fabric scrap to lay across the bottom of the cluster.

And next to the photo I used a patina finish on this wood clock piece. The shutters are from a resin pack I purchased from Michael's a while back.

I hope you are inspired to create a page about where you feel most at home to join the SEM February Challenge. Details can be found here.

If you would like to get to know me better and see more of my work, please stop by my blog, Garden Of Grace.

February's Guest Designer/- Tracey Sabella

I am really excited to announce our Guest Designer for February. We took a couple months off and havent had a gust designer but this month we are back in action!  It is wonderful to welcome Tracey Sabella

I am so honored and excited to be here with you at SEM as your February Guest Designer!! This is such a sweet, refreshing place to come see the love of our Lord expressed in the work of the amazing designers and members.

I reside in Ohio and have been married to my amazing husband, Gary, for 30 years. Family has always been an important part of my life. We have been blessed with four sweet children. Joseph is an accomplished angler and table tennis player. He added Rachel to our family in December 2010, Grace is a writer and dog trainer, Elizabeth loved high school debate and continues her involvement through coaching. She added Andrew to our lives this past October. Maria is our only daughter still at home and is in her final year of high school. She excels at drawing and loves to sing. I home educated for 19 years until Maria elected to attend our local high school two years ago.

As much as I love my family, my first love is my Savior, and my faith is often reflected in my work.

I started scrapbooking when our church started a monthly scrapbook night in February 2007. It didn’t take long to realize that while I appreciate the value of archiving our family history, for me it is really about the artistic outlet scrapbooking affords. So, I definitely enjoy the process and don’t worry about “keeping up.” I enjoy flea markets and rescuing things from the trash for my stash, so you just never know what might pop up on one of my pages. I am blessed to be a designer for the ScrapThat! Kit Club. My go to Scrapbook style these days is shabby chic mixed media.

My blog is Garden Of Grace and can be found here: http://gracescraps.blogspot.com/

Here are some of the lovely projects that Tracey has created! Make sure you check out this layout on her blog because she gives you an awesome tutorial on how to make that beautiful rose.

January Winners !!

Wow! We were so touched by your layouts created around the January theme of "Sad Moments". We are blessed to have such a talented group of ladies that follow us and participate! I know making my layout was a helpful in that it gave me quiet time to reflect and connect with God and my feelings of loss.
So many of us don't want to scrap about the sad parts of life but those moments shape the path of our lives and our characters. The verse from Isaiah [above] gives me comfort. When I start feeling overwhelmed and don't know how to get through a situation, I take strength from knowing He is holding my hand and guiding me.
I want to also let you know about our SEM Facebook ChitChat Group where we visit, play games and share in fellowship. We would love to see your scrappy creations and get to know you better!

Now for the Top 3 !
It was a very tough vote but these are the layouts that our DT selected.
Click on their name and you can read the stories behind the layouts.

1. Lisa

We were so moved by your touching story of how you wove your Father-in-Law's presence in the comforting beauty of a bird (our scrap twist!)

2.Myra

We loved this amazing layout that honors your love for your dog and the hurt you feel when he is ill. The mosaic heart of broken pieces is so perfect.

Amazingly artistic and really touched my heart as you shared your story of the love between your daughter and her Pop-Pop. This one really touched me as I shared a similar bond with my late Grandpa and still believe he is watching out for me as her Pop-Pop is watching her grow.

Please feel free to add the "top 3" badge of honor to your blogs!
Thank you so much for all of you who played along!
