Praise Post-Patience

Anyone else out there struggle with patience? Many of us know that patience is listed by Paul in Galatians 5:22-23 as being among the fruit of the I know that's something I ought to be, but oh boy, do I sure struggle with being patient. I want people to act how I want them to act, I want things to happen on my time-line and according to my plan...and when they don't, I really struggle.

A simple definition of patience might be "waiting without complaint". But in her book "The Fitting Room: Putting on the Character of Christ" (which I just finished reading not too long ago), Kelly Minter says this about patience: "It's not about the endurance needed in hardships or trying circumstances (although these are great spiritual qualities to have), but is rather about forbearing with the hurts and burdens and weaknesses of the people around us".

Two years ago my husband and I felt God calling us to help "plant" a new church. It meant moving (along with 5 other families) to a new part of our community (a struggling one...with lots of poverty and sin--so many bars and strip clubs) to help spread the gospel (the Good News of Jesus) and basically just "love on people" (show them God's love through us) and to be a blessing to this hurting community. So...we moved. And I had this wonderful "idea" in my head and heart about how things would happen. It looked basically like this: We would serve and love these people and share the gospel with them, and they would have an "A-ha" moment and realize that they needed a relationship with God to truly be happy and they would make a decision to follow Him...and everything would work out just great. Is that what happened? Not so much! Yes, we are definitely reaching out and loving and serving in our community...but are tons of people coming to have a relationship with Is my patience being tested? Yes!

It all seems so easy to me (like, "why don't they just get it already?)...till I remember myself years ago. I was one of these people. I was hurting...making seriously bad choices and in the midst of deep sin...and I wanted nothing to do with God. Yet God was still pursuing me by putting people who loved Him in my life (though I didn't really listen to their advice or even really wish to be like them). One of these sweet women invited me to her daughter's wedding...and that's when my life changed. I met my husband-to-be there, moved to Idaho and got married...and God placed us two doors down from a pastor who was "planting" a church. God put this man (and his wife) in our lives to bring us to Him. They pursued us with true friendship and love..the kind of love that only comes from Him...yet it still took my husband and I three years before we made any commitment to follow Him... at age 35.

So...I remember how patient God was with me (for 35 years) (and of course, how patient He still is!)...and all of a sudden, two years of my waiting doesn't seem like such a long time. I can still be His "vessel" and pursue others with love and service, but I need to be patient and remember that things happen in God's time, not mine. And more than anything, I need to give God praise for the relentless patience He has shown me. For I feel so much like the apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15-16, when he says: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life".

Are you ready to get sketchy?  Sherri  here, and this month I've chosen to feature a Creative Scrappers Sketch with permission by Kristine Davidson. I thought it would be fun to see all the takes we could come up with this month using this sketch as inspiration.  There are so many possibilities.  You could use multiple smaller photos, or simply use all the squares as inspiration, or use the jounaling as the main focus, by swapping the photo location with the journaling location.  The possibilities really are endless when it comes to sketches.

Guest Designer Inspiration Post

It is Linda Trzos the Guest Designer for June.  I have a layout that I created for Challenge #18.  The theme is to create a project that celebrates groups. Here is what I created:

My layout is of a group I was a part of a few years ago.  Because I am a homeschooling, stay at home mom, I really have not been a part of many groups over the last eleven years.  But in 2007 I did become part of an online fan club for a new British pop singer, Mika.  Mika's first album came out in March of 2007.  I loved it so much, it's upbeat tone and happy poppy sound was so refreshing and appealing to me.  I got online to learn more about him and found the Mika Fan Club, which was in the very early stages then. It was so much fun to talk about Mika with these people, and it made me feel younger somehow to have this sort of infatuation and share it with a group of people.  The fans on the site were scattered all over the globe, but when Mika first toured the US a group of us met in Washington, DC for his first concert there.  We had all planned to wear blinking heart necklaces so we would know who was a member of the MFC, and someone brought the MIKA MFC sign. Prior to the concert I made a mini scrapbook for him, and had asked other members of the MFC to make pages welcoming Mika to the US.  The concert was fun and very colorful, everyone was so enthusiastic and friendly.  Mika's manager saw us with the sign and invited us to meet Mika after the concert.  He was very kind and spoke to us for about 45 minutes, signing autographs and taking pictures with us.  He absolutely loved the scrapbook and some of the pages were very creative.
One thing belonging to this group has taught me is how sweet and kind people can be.  Mika himself is very kind, at this first performance it was raining as we waited in line outside to go into the venue.  He sent out umbrellas.  One other concert I was at was in the winter and he sent out hot chocolate and donuts to the people in line.  The fans also have the same manner.  Mika fans share food, money, tickets...there is no shoving or rude behavior at a Mika concert.  People are not drunk or unruly, but they sing every song alone with Mika and are respectful of one another and of him. Fans are all ages...mothers like me, teens, young adults and I've even met an 80 year old fan.  Mika told her that the next time she comes to one of his shows he wants to bring her up on stage.   I've been to many different kinds of concerts, as I'm a huge music fan, but a Mika concert truely is something special.  It's such a happy experience!

June Guest Designer- Linda Trzos

Hi everyone!  It is Nicole and I am so excited to announce the June Guest Designer!  It is the very talented Linda Trzos.   Here is a little about Linda and some of her wonderful projects she has created!
Hello everyone, I'm Linda.  I live in south east Pennsylvania, in the heart of Amish country.  I was born in Maryland but have lived here for the past 18 years, and love it here.  My husband Joe and I have four children, Megan (21), Grace (19), Mary (10) and Paul (11).  I am currently homeschooling Paul and Mary and that keeps me busy.   God has blessed me with a beautiful home and family and I'm so thankful to Him for that.
Prior to becoming a homeschooling mom, I was a therapist and I worked with individuals, couples and children.  I liked working with children.  For a number of years I was a behavioral therapist and mobile therapist for children, going to them in their homes and/or schools.  I've also worked with developmentally disabled children and and adults which was very rewarding.
My faith is an important part of who I am.  As a child I would go to church with any adult who would take me, and sometimes would go to churches in my neighborhood by myself.  I have always felt a need to be close to God.  I have gone to many different types of Christian churches, but in 1998 I converted to Catholicism.  I felt God led me there, and am happy with my faith.  My husband and I share this faith, it's the bedrock we've built our family on.
In 2009 I had bariatric surgery.  Because my insurance would not pay, I had to be self pay and found a wonderful surgeon in Brazil.  I know that sounds crazy, but I had a great experience there with my surgery and have been very happy with the results.  I lost 110 lbs and feel wonderful.  As a result of being int he WLS community I have discovered that many patients have problems afterwards with depression and transfer addictions.  Someday, when I finish homeschooling, I would like to start a practice doing therapy with this population.
I would like to thank SEM for allowing me to be designer of the month for June.  It is a great honor!

Sisters - Heartfelt Inspiration

Hi Dolores here, so excited to be bringing you my heart today. I say my heart because this is what Christ is restoring within me. Sometimes we don't understand the journey of our walk with God, but He has always had a plan and a purpose. (Jeremiah 29:11) I want to share with you how God has restored, and renewed my relationship with my sister. So I begin by sharing just a little of my past so that you can understand my heart today.
As a child I lived in an abusive home, my father beat my mother almost everyday and well me and my sister Millie were not to far behind on that list. This hurts me to say, but my stepfather made my sister and I enemies. He would literally put boxing gloves on us and make us fight each other and we would cry because we didn't want to and he would threaten us with a belt which he used on more than one occasion. It was not until this April that my sister and I finally spoke about that and she said to me "You know our parents hated each other so much that they made sure we didn't love each other" Wow I never looked at it that way. For years I felt as though she was the favorite, because of her dark hair and brown skin she was always called La India, which meant the Indian and I was blonde and light skin and I was called La Rubia which meant the Blonde one. It was always the Indian in my eyes who got the most compliments. She then told me she always wished she was blonde because everyone loved me more. We were little girls that lacked love, and we were not taught to love each other. As the years went by we would talk, but really is was small talk never really had a sister bond, until this year.
Which brings me to my heart today, I thank God for rebuilding, this relationship. In the past year I rededicated my life to the Lord and guess what? A few months after so did my sister, and that is when God began the work not only in my life, but also in hers. He began to break the chains that were binding our hearts, and we were able to let go of the hurt and really talk, share our feelings and can I say that it took over 40 years but I can say that I have never loved, respected and really appreciate my sister the way I do today. God is so Good that He was able to touch my heart, so that I can LOVE Her as a sister should. We don't share the same paternal father, but OH MY GOD we share an even powerful FATHER (God). A faithful ONE, the One who knew that this day would come and I can say I love you SIS, and really mean it.
I created this layout to show how awesome God is, the photo was taken on Mother's day, during an altar call, and one of the sisters in the church who knew of our struggles said it was "a lovely moment". It truly was, thank you Lord for my Sister.
I hope that sharing my heart and how God has been able to restore it, has blessed you. Remember that our God is a Faithful God, an on time God and if you are struggling right now with similar issues know that He is a mighty God, He has it in His hands and He will turn it around. I pray that you are continued to be blessed, and encouraged through Scrapping Everyday Miracles, because this has truly been a miracle to me. Isaiah 33:2 "O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress."
