Capturing Everyday Miracles Photo Challenge

Hello everyone!  Jeannine here with today's Capturing Everday Miracles!  I'd like to begin by reflecting on a few of the photos that were submitted by our readers who wanted to share the little miracles in their lives with us.

First we have Roberta, who shared a picture of her son's wet eyelashes after he had just been playing on the slip-n'slide.  He looks like he's catching his breath, so he must have had fun! What a precious photo of her little boy!

Sherri shared a picture of her daughters enjoying some time in the water.  They look like little models the way they're sitting there!  Such pretty girls!

Thank you, ladies, for sharing your special photos with us!

If I could save time in a bottle...

Have you ever had those moments in time where you wish you could bottle it up so you could savor it again sometime because you're enjoying it too much for it to end?

This past week I had about an hour of those moments.  I apologize for the not-so-great quality photos, but from my point of view as a Christian mother, these photos are priceless because every time I look at them I'll be reminded of those precious moments with Rachel that meant the world to me.

This past Friday our youngest daughter, Rachel, had gone over to Bethany's house (our oldest daughter) and on her way home, about 11:30pm, she saw a lightening storm up ahead of her off in the distance.  She got in our sub and pulled over to the side of the road to watch it.  She called me and asked me if I'd like to join her to watch it with her, which I gladly accepted.

We parked about a block away from the spot she was talking about (it was on the service drive where she was watching it) and then walked over there.  We found a spot on this little hill and sat on the grass watching the storm.  Rachel had her iPod so she started playing “Indescribable” while I recorded it on my Nikon pocket camera, which was a great idea because you can clearly hear the song on the video!

The iPod isn’t intended to be played like a stereo, it’s meant for the person to listen to it with an ear bud so after a few songs, Rachel took her ear buds out of her purse and offered to share them with me so here we are, sitting on the grassy hill watching the lightening storm sharing her ear buds as we listen to (and sing) Christian music together… life doesn’t get any better than that, if you ask me!  I felt so emotionally connected to her because we were sharing time together doing something we both enjoy while listening to music we both like.  I LOVED IT!!  It made my heart smile.

What Rachel doesn’t know is that as much as I enjoyed the lightening storm, the thing that moved me more than anything was the fact that she wanted me to share these moments with her.  We have a great relationship so it's not like things like this are unusual for us, but it doesn't make me appreciate them any less.

As I sat there with her on the grass with her watching the storm, sharing ear buds as we listened to (and sometimes sang) songs of praise to God, I couldn't help but (repeatedly!) thank God for the relationship I have with both of our girls and even more thankful that they both have a strong love for the Lord.  I also thanked God that Rachel wanted call me at 11:30 at night to see if I would like to join her in watching this very awesome lightening storm with her.  I can't even guess how many times during that hour we were there that I said, "Thank you, Lord, for moments like this with Rachel and I am so thankful that our girls love you so much and that their hearts are sold out to you."  Our God is an awesome God!

We hope that you will look for those precious opportunities to capture your own everyday miracles in your photography, then come back here to share them with us!  Please use the Inlinkz button to submit your photo before 11:59 pm Pacific Time on Tuesday August 2.   We can't wait to see what you'll share with us!

Inspiration Challenge

Hello, Lisa here. I was struck by the color scheme on this magazine cover and I knew I wanted to use it in a layout.

As I was searching through my stash, I came across the perfect paper for it (an oldie but goodie Basic Grey pattern). Once I latched onto the paper, all the details fell into place.

I invite you to use the same magazine cover for your own inspiration. Share with us what you come up with!

UPDATE!!!! There is now a chance to win a prize if you participate in this mini challenge. Hurray for prizes! You can win a bundle of 3 ribbons from Paper Loves Glue. (You want this ribbon, it is so cool!) Link up your creation below by midnight PST on Aug. 1st.

Friday's are for Praise!!

Hallo everyone . . . It's Roulien here with this weeks Praise Post!

Many of you know that my family lives in Saudi Arabia . . . and it's not an easy place to be! Right now it's HOT . . . temperatures of well over 120 for weeks on end and with a heat wave warning that has been issued for the week to come! To say I'm thankful for the airconditioning in our home is an understatement!!!!

But what I'm the most grateful for right at this moment, is for a wonderful group of woman that has graciously invited me to have biblestudy with them once a week. And once a month we have communion together . . . What a blessing to have in my life!!! To live in Saudi, where the Muslims are having prayer 6 times a day, and "normal" live as we know it, comes to a standstill with those prayer times, can be very overwhelming! Christianity (or any other religion for that matter) are not accepted or tolerated here.

To find this group ladies, really makes it easier for me to be here. It's like going to church . . . just on a smaller scale! When I walk away after having communion, I feel like I can do anything!! It's such a blessing to have these woman who share my believes and faith in my live! And I'm so grateful that God has brought them to me in a time when I really needed the fellowship!!

Here is a photo of the lady who stared it all at the first communion we had together!!! She is such an inspiration to me!

And the communion table that she has prepared for us!

Please pray with us that more woman will join our little group to sing His praise! And please keep all the wonderful people who do missionary work in countries where it's dangerous to do so, in your thoughts and prayer!!! It realy is not easy or save to do so for them or their families!!!

Wishing all of you a wonderful and blessed weekend!!

Capturing Everyday Miracles Photo Challenge

Hey, it's Lisa again. Two posts in a row, how about that! =) It's important to have your camera ready to capture those everyday miracles that come your way. We recently went camping near Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Our campground was a few miles inland where it was warm and sunny. This area of the coast is notorious for being foggy, cold and super windy even when the weather is fabulous just a few miles away. We weren't sure what we'd find when we actually went out to the beach (freezing cold, whining kids?) Well, it turned out to be wonderful. It was overcast, but there wasn't a bit of wind and the temperature was perfect. The kids all had a blast getting wet, sandy and chasing seagulls and other unsuspecting critters. My son Greg found a big crab which was VERY exciting for everyone. (Probably not so much for the crab.) We were very thankful for our nice outing into a beautiful natural spot.

Are you capturing everyday miracles in your photography? We'd love to see what you've been taking pictures of! Link your photos up here and let us take a look.

Challenge #4

Hello everyone, it's Lisa here! We are onto our fourth challenge and it's all about music!

Music is amazing... you can hear a song, maybe even for the first time, and it can cause emotions to well-up... have you ever had a song that you hear and it just speaks to your heart?  Sometimes God uses music to show you His blessings and miracles in your life. Music is a powerful way God can communicate with us. God can use anything, anyone to teach you something new or remind you of something you already know. Create a project that shows how a song inspired you to see a miracle in your life…

Scrap twist: Use fabric somewhere, somehow on your project.

We are very thankful that we have TWO wonderful sponsors for this challenge too. The first is the Paper Loves Glue Shoppe and look at the wonderful seam binding ribbon the owner gave us to use on our projects. Please stop by her shop and take a look, you won't be sorry (and the ribbon comes in so many colors!)

Our second sponsor is Free Pretty Little Things and she sent us the cutest graphics to use. Go check out her site and find some goodies to download for yourself.

Winners of this challenge will receive five bundles of ribbon (that's 15 yds!) from the Paper Loves Glue Shoppe and a blog or etsy store make-over from Free Pretty Little Things

Here are the DT projects to help inspire you:

used the lyrics On My Own from Barlow Girl. This song speaks to her and reminds her she cannot do it alone.

used the song by U2 Where the Streets Have No Name because it reminds her of Africa and Nigeria where her experiences forever changed her life!

used Brian Doerksen's song Today… she plays it everyday because it reminds her that to do God's will, and to follow Him is a choice she has to make each and every day!

used the song What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong because it reminds her to look for the good that is all around her.

is inspired by the song Indescribable by Chris Tomlin. Whenever she hears that song, she is in awe over all that God has created for us to enjoy.

resonates to the Tim Hughes song Be My Everything.

We thank our guest designer Tenny for contributing to the inspiration too!

Please link your project to this post by JULY 31st to get a chance to win those wonderful prizes! Remember to stop by and check out all our sponsor's fun products.

Not only can you win this month's prize, but from all of the layouts submitted for July's Challenges the DT will pick their top 3 layouts, and if you are our top favorite you will win a spot as our Guest Designer for September!

Good luck and have fun creating!!

Friday's Praise Post... oops it is Sunday...

Sometimes the days get away from me and I dont even realize what day it is... let alone what the date is... So sorry that I am not posting the praise report until now....

I sit here thinking of everything  that I am thankful for  I have a wonderful husband, and daughter... we are all healthy and well... but sometimes I forget to praise God for the silly little things in my life like my animals... I find it so funny that we take these animals into our home, name them and love them.  They in return truly love us.  I have a dog and two cats.  My cat Rum Tum Tugger is one special guy.  A day doesnt go by that he doesnt brighten my day.  He is one crazy animal...he only has one eye but that doesnt slow him down... He cant jump worth a darn but that doesnt seem to bother him either... I know he has used at least 5 of his 9 lives... When we walk the dog he always comes along and is the most loyal cat I have ever seen.  I just love him! I love the dog Pluto and the other cat Asparagus (but we call him Gus) too but I can share more about them later....
Here is a pic of Rum Tum Tugger...

When we moved to Norway my husband promised that we could bring the animals with us.  That promise ended up being harder to keep than what he thought... but God cared and He got our animals here. It took a year to get all 3 of them here and a lot of friends and family that went the extra mile to watch them... It amazes me that God cares about a little thing like me having my animals... He knew how much I was giving up by moving to Norway and that was one thing that I didnt have to give up...

So I have to praise God for my animals and especially for that crazy cat He gave me....

SRM Stickers

Hi Everyone
I wanted to share a project that I made using SRM stickers... they are our sponsor for Challenge #3...The stickers are really great because they can be stuck anywhere on the project because they are clear... I just love them!  Please check out their store... you wont be disappointed....

Capturing Everyday Miracles

When I was first asked to be on the DT here at Scrapping Everyday Miracles, I knew that my biggest challenge would be the task of taking pictures to use to scrap the everyday miracles in my life. I knew nature would play a big part in the photos (as this is often when God displays His glory) and I find it fun to be "on the alert" for these photo ops.

One such opportunity occured last week at the beach, where my kids take swimming lessons. My friend's daughter ran up to us with a treasure to share: a heart shaped rock she found in the sand. I was so happy that I'd brought my camera to the beach that day! I immediately asked if I could take a picture of her holding it.

This is the first shot I got:

I was a little disappointed with the fact that it didn't look as much like a heart. So after she ran off to keep playing, I asked Susan to hold it up for me.

Then I decided to make a layout with the photo and titled it Reminders of His Love.

I don't think I often get symbolic or artsy with my layouts, but for some reason, I did with this one.... and it was fun! I layered some kraft letters (that I cut with my Quickutz Classic alphabet dies and my Cuttlebug) over the kraft cardstock, because I think that sometimes these reminders are hard to see (or easy to miss) if we're not looking for them. I stitched the patterned paper squares like a quilt because I think that our faith is made up of smaller elements like this, collected together.

Here are a few close-up shots:

And one with the tag pulled out of the pocket:

Are you capturing any everyday miracles with your camera? If so, I'd love to see them!

Tutorial Time!! Circle Text

Hi everyone . . . Roulien here . . . Today I’m going to share with you a tutorial on how to make circle text. This is something I love to do to give a layout or card that something special. Here is a card I created for a little girl's birthday.

And a close-up of the circle text sentiment:

Here is what you need to create the circle text:

* Your PC with MS Word;
* Printer;
* Circle punch, siccors or an cutting machine to cut your circle.

This is what you do:

To make the "hello cupcake" circle text in Microsoft word, you'll need to select "Insert" from your top menu and then select "WordArt".
At this point I usually just select WordArt3 ~ It's the 3rd one on the top from the drop down menu and looks like a half circle. We will change it to a full circle later.
Now you'll need to write your sentiment and choose the font and the font size.

Remember to repeat the sentiment multiple times without pressing RETURN (I did 3 times). My font size was about 18 pt, but customize it as you choose. Press okay when done. For now it will look very distorted, stay with me!

Then select "WordArt Format" ~ last option from your top menu ~options and select "Change Shape", select Circle (3rd on the top row).

Now adjust the size of the circle by either dragging the bounding box or by manually entering the size, about 3.5"x3.5" for this card.

Now print out onto cardstock and cut out with a circle cutter or scissors. No need to cut out the center, just add another circle. Layer with other circles and scalloped circles. Add stitching if desired and embellish. And there you have it, a unique card for someone special!

Of course you could use circle text for a variety things, including journaling on a layout. Go ahead, give a try and if you’re not up to using a computer, you can do the same thing with rub- ons or your own handwriting!

If you've created something with this tutorial, I would love to see it!! Please leave a link within the comment section for us to see what you created! Have fun playing!

Worthy of praise!!!

Hey again it's Elizabeth!!!
I wanted to share a praise that is worthy of mentioning!!
This past weekend was 4th of July as you know. I am sure we can all attest that each of us had a wonderful time eating, fellow-shipping, watching fireworks, and enjoying our freedoms that our country has!
This year for us, we laid low. In fact, we didn't even leave the house! That's right. It was just Alyssa and I celebrating because Dayv was deployed. We had a fun vegan food celebration, and then lit some sparklers and turtles on our drive way. Then we sat down at it got darker and watched the show! You see our neighborhood has for the past 2 years put on an amazing show. Many of the individuals in our neighborhood go out and spend a great deal of money on fireworks to shoot off and share with all of us.

For that I am very thankful! As we were sitting there watching, I realize how thankful I was to live in a neighborhood that truly cared. Sure it is fun to eat, spend time with friends, and shoot off fireworks. But its always heart-warming to know our neighborhood banded together to show their love for our country by lighting the beautiful fireworks that they did! I was so thankful that we had front row seats to an amazing show, and for each neighbor that was celebrating like us. For our freedoms and comradeship between neighbors.

I hope your neighborhood no matter where you live comes together in moments like this too!

It's The Little Things.

Hello everyone, Elizabeth here!!!
Taking a moment of your time to share the little things of my captured life with you today!
These are our puppies.

I really cannot call all of them that, because 2 of them are 12. But there is one puppy in the mix. However, they have always been my puppies and will forever remain my puppies!
We've had Jake and Kira for the 12 years and very recently brought home Gracie who is now 1 years old. If you follow my blog, you will know that it hasn't been easy bringing Gracie into the mix. After all, 12 years with just 2 dogs made it so their bond was pretty tight. On top of that, Jake's breed does not do well with other dogs. At. All. So you can imagine when we brought Gracie home, how that affected and upheavaled our entire household. In fact, for 2 weeks straight we thought Jake was going to eat Gracie. It went from attack dog to then following her around unmercifully. I mean it was pretty bad. Gracie was stressed, Jake was being very strange, and we were all stressed too. It came to the point where we talked about getting rid of her because of the chaos choosing to bring her home had created. But thankfully after much prayer and about 3 weeks out of know where Jake calmed down. Oh sure he followed her at times, but she began to really understand him and in turn their relationship took a positive twist to today, where they are not only good friends and get along, I think Jake and Gracie kinda dig each other too!

But the whole wonderful thing of it all is that here we are today! Gracie has been with us 3 months now {which at times feels like an eternity, ha!} and sitting with them the other morning snapping their picture just proves how perseverance is a very good thing indeed! They are so cute and have come so far together these 3 months! Although I couldn't get a photo of the 3 of them together, I just decided that having this moment and capturing where we were was good enough! Jake and Gracie get along really well. Kira and Gracie have an understanding and like each other but they don't interact much. And we are one big happy family!

How about you? What has captured you in your everyday moments?

Challenge #3

Hi everyone . . . its Roulien here and I'm so excited to be bringing you our first challenge for July! I recently realized that I take for granted one of God's "biggest" gifts and there for our new challenge . . .

Maybe it's waking up your children . . . having a morning walk . . . some quite time you spent with a friend . . . it could even be your work . . . or special moments with you husband! For me, it's the realization that every new day is a GIFT, something to be enjoyed and savoured, not just something we have to "survive"! Unwrap a new day as if it is a beautiful present and share with us what you find inside! I can't wait to see what you create!!!

My page is all about how a new day means a second chance to right the wrongs of yesterday!

"All of my life since walking with the Lord I have always said that waking up meant a new breath. It is a catch phase for me that I always say."

For Jeannine a new day means time to spent with her loved ones!!
